National Quilt Museum, Primal Forces: Wind from Meena Schaldenbrand

Thrilled to be a part of the fantastic Wind exhibit at the National Quilt Museum in Paducah, KY.
Delighted to see this quilt in person that was made for my grandson who is fascinated by tornadoes!

Appliqué at the National Quilt Museum: Part 2 from Telling Stories Through the Needle's Eye

This week, we finish our appliqué tour at the National Quilt Museum in Paducah. Both of the remaining exhibits featured tiny quilts. A full-sized appliquéd album quilt is impressive, and then there are the album quilts that are the size of a typical block. Mind-blowing work. I (Teri) was in awe and inspired to attempt some small stitching.

Enjoy!

Note the size difference between these two quilts.

I have always loved this block; it was the first appliqué class that I taught.

Beautiful border

Remember—this quilt is only 14.25" square; the whole quilt! See description above.

Appliqué at the National Quilt Museum: Part 1 from Telling Stories Through the Needle's Eye

As I (Teri) have previously posted, I had the honor and privilege of visiting the National Quilt Museum in Paducah, Kentucky, earlier this month. It has always been on my bucket list, and hopefully, it will not be a one-time visit. I was enthralled by the exquisite examples of needlework on display. All the quilts were stunning, but not surprisingly, I was especially drawn to the appliquéd quilts. This week and next, I will share a small tour of the current exhibit; we hope you will be as inspired as we are. So many new ideas are buzzing in my ...

Have We Forgotten to NEVER FORGET? from Telling Stories Through the Needle's Eye

Kara and I (Teri) are having an amazing time at Baltimore on the Prairie—teaching, catching up with old friends, and meeting new ones. We will fill you in on our event next week.

This week, as we near the twentieth anniversary of 9/11, I would like to share with you a current exhibit at the National Quilt Museum—NEVER FORGET: Quilts from the 9/11 Memorial and Museum. My husband and I stopped to visit the museum on our road trip to Nebraska, and we found this particular exhibit both beautiful and gut-wrenching. I confess that it kept ...

Applique Inspiration from From the Strawberry Patch...

Infused with inspiration by applique quilts on display at the National Quilt Museum I came home and planned a little wallhanging of my own. More on that after the back story. This quilt, by Pat Holly and Sue Nickels is entitled "Two of Us". They're quilting sisters,  both from Michigan, and draw their inspiration from folk art applique quilts of the 1800's. They celebrate the spontaneity of our
